Vincent Matthew Blackwood

Nov. 22, 1968 - Jan. 22, 2024

On November 22, 1968, in Blythe, CA, Sam & Judy Blackwood welcomed their 6th child, a son, into the world.

Sam named him Vincent after his boss that he deeply respected and Judy named him Matthew from the Bible.

Vincent was tough. He was a tough kid, a tough teen, a tough adult.  All that toughness was to protect his very soft heart.  If you were lucky enough for him to let you into his heart, he would do most anything to help you.

He met his life-long best friend, Troy Crim, in elementary school. They were two peas in a pod, closer than brothers.

Vincent was a handsome young man, and where you saw a group of pretty girls, you could bet you'd find Vince in the big middle of it.

Then he met Norma Valenzuela and she changed his life. He was completely and totally in love with and loved by Norma.

After working in construction for many years, he became maintenance manager for River Sands Resort in Ehrenberg.
He was proud that he held certifications in waste water management as well as being trained in other areas of maintenance for the resort community.

He leaves behind the love of his life, Norma, his "son" Ben the dog, the most recent addition to his family, Buddy, (a smaller version of Ben) and Kipper who adopted Vince & Norma.

He also leaves behind his only sister, Sandra Durkin, his three brothers, Randy Blackwood, Danny Blackwood, and William Barber and many, many cousins, nieces, and nephews

He passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 22nd, 2024, joining his father, mother, and two brothers Sammy Jay Blackwood and Alvin Blackwood.

Services will be held on Monday, February 5th, 2024 at Frye Chapel with visitation starting at 9:00 a.m. and funeral service starting at 10:00 a.m. (CA time).  Burial will follow at Palo Verde Cemetery.  A reception will follow at River Sands RV Resort in Ehrenberg at 49960 Ehrenberg Poston Hwy at 1:00 p.m. (CA time).
