Weiss

Blythe
Steven James Weiss went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 27, 2022.
Steve was born in Tucson, Arizona on June 8, 1955 to Jerald and Georgie Weiss. He spent his adolescent years traveling the world with his family, as his father was a pilot in the United States Air Force. Steve had fond memories of living in the Philippines as a child. Steve graduated from Eastern Wayne High School in Greensboro, North Carolina in 1973. Steve attended Fresno State University, earning a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice in 1977.
After college, Steve entered Officer Candidate School for the United States Marine Corps. Steve dedicated 23 years of his life to serving his county. Steve was a proud Marine and earned the rank of Major before he retired in 2000.
After leaving active-duty military service in the Marine Corps, Steve entered the Correctional Officer Academy for the California Department of Corrections. After graduating from the Academy in 1994, Steve was assigned to Ironwood State Prison in Blythe. After relocating to Blythe with his sons Josh, Jonathan and James, Steve met and married his wife Jill (Griffin). They were happily married for 27 years before his passing. Steve retired from CDCR in 2020, having been one of the few remaining staff members who opened Ironwood in the 90's.
Steve was a dedicated and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He also loved the Lord and was active in his church. Steve enjoyed running, sports and sporting events and cheering for the ill-fated Fresno State Football team. Steve loved to root for the underdog.
Steve is survived by his wife Jill Weiss, sons Joshua Weiss, Jonathan (Ashley) Weiss and James (Amy) Weiss, stepchildren Mallory (Zach) Crecelius and Mike (Morgan) Sutterfield, his beloved grandchildren Taylor, Tatum, Tanner, Tyler, Annie, Oliver, Esme, Jesse, Simon, Charlie, Cole and Clay and his brother David Weiss of Atwater, California. Steve is preceded in death by his Father Jerald Weiss, Mother Georgette Miller, and sister Janet Brown.
