On Saturday, January 6th, Socorro Garcia Pedroza returned home to heaven at age 94. Socorro was born on May 26, 1923, in Atil, a tiny mining town in Sonora, Mexico. She was the fourth born in a family of seven to Rodolfo and Guadalupe Garcia. She met and married Jesus Pedroza in 1951, in Pasadena, California. They, with their children, moved to Blythe in December of 1953.
Socorro was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her husband and six children. Socorro is survived by her daughter Norma and son-in-law Ruben Castillo; grandson Richard Castillo, his wife Julie, and their children Audrey, Evan Bethany and Liam; grandson Aaron Castillo and his wife Cassie; and granddaughter Alissa Castillo. Socorro is also survived by her beloved granddog Tessa and great-granddogs Ché, Jasper and Sadie. Socorro will be missed deeply by all who knew and loved her because of her love and compassion for others.
Funeral services for Socorro are set for Sunday, January 14, at Frye Chapel & Mortuary, with viewing beginning at 5 p.m., and Rosary at 7:00 p.m. The funeral Mass will be Monday, January 15, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Palo Verde District Cemetery. A reception will immediately follow at St. Joan of Arc Parish Hall.
