Sheila R. Cross-Johnson was born on February 26, 1955, to Earley Herbert Cross and Gradie Beatrice Washington. Her stepmother, Opal Cross, played a pivotal role in raising her and shaping the woman she became. Sheila was the second of eleven children.

Born and raised in Blythe, California, Sheila spent her entire life there, building deep and lasting roots within the community. She attended Palo Verde High School and later graduated from Twin Palms High School.

With Edwin Hill Jr., Sheila was blessed with two children, Dominique and Edwin, to whom she was a devoted and loving mother. Many of her children's friends affectionately referred to her as their "second mom," as Sheila opened her heart and home to them—loving, supporting, and fiercely defending them as if they were her own.

Sheila enjoyed playing women's softball for many years in Blythe and was a faithful and active member of Greater White Rose Church of God. Her commitment to her faith and community was evident in her willingness to help wherever she was needed.

Family was always at the center of Sheila's life. She was deeply devoted to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was especially excited for the arrival of a new grandchild.

Sheila later married Gideon Johnson, with whom she shared 33 loving years. Their bond was strong, and Gideon was a devoted and supportive husband, stepfather, and step-grandfather.

Throughout her life, Sheila formed many lifelong friendships in Blythe—something clearly reflected in the countless phone calls, visits, and enduring relationships she maintained over the years. Her presence touched many lives, and her love left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

Sheila was preceded in death by her parents, Earley Herbert Cross and Gradie Beatrice Washington; her stepmother, Opal Cross; her former husband, Edwin Hill Jr.; her sister, Nona; her brother, Christopher; and her nephew, Christopher Jr.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband, Gideon Johnson; her sons, Dominique Hill Sr. and Edwin Hill III; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her siblings Shane Cross of Blythe, Harley Tank Cross, Dennis Cross of Blythe, Stephanie Cross of Menifee, California, Leonard Cross of California, Wade Stokely of Blythe, California, Jeff Cross of Florida, and Glenn Cross of Blythe, California; along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.

Sheila's legacy of love, strength, and generosity will live on forever through her family and all who were fortunate enough to be loved by her.

Services for Sheila will be held on Friday, January 23rd at Frye Chapel with visitation starting at 9:00 a.m. and funeral service beginning at 11:00 a.m.
