Rosemary C. Marlowe
September 16, 1942 – August 23, 2023
Rosemary Covino Marlowe, 80, passed away peacefully in Peoria, AZ while recovering from a hip fracture. She was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts to the late Nicolas and Mary Covino on September 16, 1942. Rosemary received a Bachelor of Arts from Emmanuel College in Boston, MA and a Master of Arts from Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, TN. She was a passionate educator and avid reader. She began her teaching career at Newburyport High School in Newburyport, Massachusetts in 1963 and retired from Blythe Middle School in Blythe, California in 2003. She touched countless student lives in her classroom, including being a mentor teacher to new faculty. She loved to hear from all her students even after they left her class, as she always saw what they could achieve.
Rosemary was a dedicated military wife to her late husband Major (retired) David H. Marlowe. In 1985, after his retirement, they returned to Blythe where she was very active in the community. She was a long-standing member of the California Women for Agriculture and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Her passion for books drove her to serve for 10 years on the board of Trustees (BOT) for the Palo Verde Valley District Library. Most recently she served as the Vice President of the BOT for the library. She will always be remembered for her warmth, intelligence and ability to still bring on that Boston accent. She played a mean game of Trivial Pursuit and enjoyed cheering for her beloved Boston Red Sox. The last ballgame she attended was in 2019 at Angels Stadium, in which she stayed until 1 am to watch the Red Sox beat the Angels in 15 innings, 7 - 6.
Rosemary is survived by her daughter Dr Elizabeth 'Beth' Marlowe Goslow, PhD, son-in-law Peter Goslow, grandsons, Teddy and Evan, sisters-in-law Janet (Terry) White and Shirley (Ray) Nash as well as many nephews and nieces. She is preceded in her death by her husband David H. Marlowe and her son Christopher D. Marlowe.
A visitation will be held at Frye Chapel Thursday September 7th from 4 – 6 pm in Blythe, CA. Funeral Services will be held at Zion Lutheran Church on Friday, September 8th at 10:00 a.m. in Blythe, CA.
