Obituary

Priscilla Jean Hamblen, a longtime resident of Blythe, CA, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 79 on Thursday, July 25, 2019 while staying with her daughter and granddaughter in the city of Palm Desert.

Loved and admired by many, she was known to most as "Cill".  She enjoyed traveling, long walks in the rain, quilting, cooking and spending time with her family.  She was a member of the Red Hats Society and St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church.  She was not defined by her occupation or any singular obstacles she faced and overcame.  Kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing a piece of broken pottery with gold or silver lacquer, is a metaphor for her life.  She was compiled of pieces that at one point may have felt impossible to mend back together.  Broken early in her life, she faced challenges such as raising her younger siblings, losing her husband after a long battle with cancer while raising their eldest grandson, then fighting and surviving breast cancer.  Despite this, she showed many that sometimes life can break you into a thousand pieces, but that should not stop us from living and loving intensely.  Kintsugi, captures the essence of resilience and also maintains the understanding that the pottery is even more beautiful after having been broken. The golden filled cracks that are seen trailing up and across the pottery resemble the scars we are left with in life.  Though she may have been broken at times into pieces she managed through her faith and perseverance to mend those scars together, creating an even more unique, resilient, and beautiful woman.  She was a giving, and loving soul that we were blessed to call mom, grandma, sister, aunt, and a friend.

Preceded in death by her husband James Louis Hamblen, she is remembered with love by her children Phillip (Ida), Connie (Bob) and Rhonda (Chuck); eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren, seven siblings and numerous nieces and nephews.

We know she is no longer broken and her wings were ready but our hearts were not.  We will miss her terribly.
