Obituary

Paula Romero Martinez was born in Lordsburg, New Mexico to Andres and Rosa Martinez on April 28, 1940 and passed away on November 14, 2023 in Blythe, California.

Paula will always be remembered as a fearless mother who single-handedly made miracles happen to raise her children and grandchildren.  She relocated over 600 miles away from her hometown.  She obtained her nursing license, purchased her first home and lovingly raised her family.  She always put the needs of her family before her own and fiercely protected her children.

Paula, who worked as a physical therapist at Palo Verde Hospital in Blythe, CA, had a genuine nurse's heart.  She utilized her skills to help many people in her community during their sickness.   Some of them were grateful for her presence as she held their loved one's hands through their passing.

Paula enjoyed interacting with strangers of all ages, especially babies, but she mostly cherished her time with family, including her pets.  Singing, dancing, and listening to music were some of her favorite pastimes.  Later in life, Paula was diagnosed with dementia.  However, even on her most challenging days, she found time for conversations with her loved ones, even in her sleep.  If you have a sick loved one, remember that a simple visit can brighten their day.  Dementia is a difficult condition.  For more information, visit the National Institute on Aging website.

Paula was preceded in death by her mother Rosa, her father Andres and her son James Flores.

She is survived by her daughter Cordelia Rodriguez, son Daniel Rodriguez (Alice Rodriguez), Seferina Martinez (Rich Poffenbarger), daughter Angelica Maria Gil (Ron Bowman), 30 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Paula fought a good fight, finished her race well, and always kept faith in God.  She will forever be in our hearts.

A memorial Mass service will be held in Blythe at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church on Wednesday, December 13th at 10:00 a.m.  She will later be laid to rest at Virden Catholic Cemetery in Hidalgo, New Mexico.
