Obituary

Nicholas Daniel Castro was born February 21, 1956 to John Castro and Ophelia Caldera Holguin in Blythe, CA. He attended the local schools in Blythe and graduated PVHS Class of 1975.

He married Norma Guilin (Wellentin) January 22, 1977 and had three children: Nicholas Jr., Marissa and Melissa. He then married Diana Maritza Paredes (Castro) May 31, 2001 and had one child, Michael J. (Diana preceded him in death in 2007.) Nick then met and married Guadalupe Pina Castro September 15, 2016.

Nick's hobbies included playing horse shoes, corn hole, or pool and listening to oldies while BBQing with family and friends. You could catch him enjoying cold bud lights and wings while watching any sports, especially on football Sundays, cheering on his STEELERS with family and friends.

He lived in Blythe for the majority of his life. He moved to the high desert for a couple of years from 2005-2007 then moved to Chula Vista, CA from 2007-2020. He recently returned to his hometown of Blythe in August 2020.

Nick began working as young as he could. One of his first jobs was at Chevron then he worked at Safeway for about 15 years. He then worked for the State Department of Corrections in the warehouse at several facilities such as: Ironwood State Prison in Blythe, Institution for Men in Chino and Richard J. Donovan in Chula Vista.

He was preceded in death by his mother Ophelia Caldera Holquin, his brother David Montes and his wife Diana Paredes Castro.

He is survived by his wife Guadalupe Pina Castro, his sisters Liza Holguin, Pam Montes and Barbara Couthern, his brothers Paul (Carrie) Castro and Ruben Holquin, his daughters Marissa (Carey) Hernandez and Melissa Castro, his sons Nicholas D. Castro Jr. and Michael J. Castro, his grandchildren Cyrus Pena, Malina Hernandez, Ralph Sambrano and Caley Hernandez, along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, extended family and friends.

Services for Nick will be on Friday, October 1, 2021. Viewing at Frye Chapel at 10:00 am, services to start at 11:00 am with burial services following at Palo Verde Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held the same day at 2:00pm at the American Legion in Blythe.
