Myrt Griffin was called home to be with the Lord on November 2, 2017 with her family by her side.
Myrt was born on July 24, 1935 in Williams, Arizona to Walter and Martha Ward. Myrt and family moved to Blythe, California when she was a young child. Myrt attended Palo Verde High school and served as the school's Drum Majorette. She was very proud of placing 3rd in the State at a Drum Majorette competition held in Long Beach, Ca. During high school she worked at the Hub Theater and Palo Verde Drug Store. After graduating from high school in 1953 she attended Palo Verde College.
During high school Myrt met Fredrick Griffin. At first she would not give Fred the time of day but his charm eventually grew on her and they married on September 24, 1954. To this union were born two daughters, Vicki Sue Griffin and Jill Griffin (Weiss). Fred's job took them all over the country and after their daughters were born they settled in Eagle Mountain, California. In Eagle Mountain Myrt was active in her church and taught baton to local children, sewing costumes and taking them to march in parades. She cherished her time in Eagle Mountain and the many lifelong friends she met there.
After Fred retired in 1982, the couple moved back to Blythe to be closer to their daughters. In retirement they loved spending time on the river with their grandchildren Mallory and Mike. Myrt took pride in being a homemaker and her family loved her Granny Myrt Burgers and German Chocolate Cake. Myrt loved animals and rescued a number of pets over the years. In her golden years Myrt took up line dancing, which she taught to local seniors at the Blythe Community Center. Myrt also enjoyed playing the piano and could be heard playing for residents of the Blythe Nursing home on Sundays for a number of years.
Myrt is preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Fred Griffin, beloved daughter Vicki, parents Martha and Walter, siblings James "Bud" Ward, June Underwood and Ann Vineyard and niece Terri Vineyard. She is survived by her daughter Jill Weiss (Steve), grandchildren Mallory Crecelius (Zach) and Mike Sutterfield (Morgan), Great Grandchildren Taylor, Tatum, Tanner and Tyler Sutterfield and Cole Crecelius, Sister Francis Wellman, Sister- in-law Bonnie Johnson(Carl) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services for Myrt will be held at First Southern Baptist Church of Blythe, 350 N. Palm Dr. on December 1, 2017 at 11am. In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made to any Parkinson's research foundation.
