Obituary

Melvin Roy "Spike" Tyson, 67 passed away on May 10, 2026, in Blythe, California. Born on August 16, 1958, in Bakersfield, California, Spike lived a life marked by simplicity, hard work, and deep love for his family and friends.

Spike was the beloved son of Evelyn Tyson and the late John Tyson. He is survived by his mother; his siblings Cynthia Tyson (Dave Mays), Johnna Eller (Jon), and Bryan Tyson (Lori); his children Kristina Tyson and Darci Waelchil (Norman); his cherished grandchildren Madilyn, Blake, Riley, Aleska, Catherine, and James. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who will fondly remember him. Spike was predeceased by his grandparents Jeannie Davidson, Wayne Davidson, and Claude Hemby.

A man of simple pleasures and great dedication, Spike spent most of his life working in the construction field. He took pride in working with his hands and building things – a skill that reflected both his craftsmanship and determination. Outside of work, he found joy in fishing at his favorite fishing hole in Ripley. His love for the outdoors was matched only by his affection for those closest to him.

Spike had a special bond with his dog America and treasured the time he spent with her and his friends. Whether casting a line at the water's edge or sharing moments with loved ones, Spike's warmth and presence left an indelible mark on those who knew him. Spike cared for people; he helped many people in our community when they were in need.
