Obituary

Mary Agnes Evans was born on October 5th, 1933, in Wilson, North Carolina. Sometime during Mary's teenage years, she relocated to Delaware where she met Ralph Baker Sr and birthed two beautiful children Ralph Jr. and Wilhelmina. Several years later Mary moved to New York, where she met George Wooden and birthed her baby girl, Sibtha. While she lived in New York Mary did everything you could think of from cleaning houses to opening her own clothing store. Mary was always working but she never forgot to take time off to travel. Traveling was one of her greatest joys in life! Every summer Mary and her youngest daughter Sibtha would travel to various states across the country. She even once took a cruise to Bermuda!

On one of her many vacations Mary Agnes fell in love with California and she dreamed of returning to make the golden state her permanent residence. In 1970 Mary's dream came true and she moved to Los Angeles, California! Her hard work ethic continued as she began working at a restaurant named House of Dimes and opened a small sewing shop. In 1995 she retired from the House keeping department of Marriott in Santa Monica. With her 3 grandchildren in tow, she set off for a new adventure!

In 1995 Mary's adventures landed her in Blythe, California. Amid being newly retired, Mary still had a fire in her heart to continue to make a difference in this world. During the 15 plus years she lived in Blythe Mary stayed busy. She worked with the schools to advocate for Black History awareness, opened a Black History and Multicultural Society Museum, volunteered as a Pink Lady at Palo Verde Hospital, worked with the NAACP, worked with city council, advocated strongly for a better transit system, visited almost every church in Blythe, walked Blythe from one end to the other, and loved everyone who crossed her path! Mary truly loved the small town of Blythe and was dedicated to being an active resident of the small border town.

Mary Agnes Evans leaves behind one son Ralph, two daughters Wilhelmina and Sibtha. Eight grandchildren Jaqueline, LuvVaughn, James, Ramon, Joseph, Anthony, Britney, and Ashley. 14 Great grandchildren Lorenzo, Damon, Ray Ray, Araia, Mia, Lil LuvVaughn, Zyair, Tahnia, Damon Jr, Taylor James Jr, Javon, Davion, Semaj, Athena, Lashelle, Joie, J'lonie, Jasmine, and Joseph Jr. 7 Great great grandsons Gabriel, Trey Trey, Ruel, Azriel, Jaden, Davion Jr, Ny'ke and one on the way. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, granddaughter in-law Felicia Jones and grandson Damon Jones Jr.

Mary departed with comfort and lots of care given by her children and grandchildren at her home in San Bernardino, California. Mary truly lived a good life. She loved people and loved the Lord!

Mark 12:30-31

30: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all they strength; this is the first commandment. 31: And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.
