Obituary

Martha Ann Coulson Harold Bigler was born July 29, 1942 in Blythe, California, to Howard Coulson, Jr. of Ohio and Dora Baird of Oklahoma. Martha passed away on December 9th from complications following a long and valiant battle against Multiple Sclerosis.

Martha was preceded in death by her first husband Joseph Paul Harold in 1963, mother Dora in 1988 and father Howard in 2006.

Martha enjoyed a long life in Blythe, California surrounded by many friends and family members. Her lifelong love of tortoises was passed on to her children and grandchildren, and she was known by many as "The Turtle Lady". Martha was active in the Blythe Junior Women's Club, the Blythe Chapter of the Soroptimist Club, annual Homecoming events, and Job's Daughters for many years. But the heart of her career was based around the family business, Coulson Agency, where the family served as insurance agents and accounting services for the Palo Verde Valley for over 50 years.

She is survived by her spouse of 54 years, Kenneth Harold Bigler, her brother Howard, III (Karen), daughter Joanne Harold Lacey (Bill), son Douglas Raymond Bigler, and daughter Dianne Elizabeth Douglas (David). Martha was the beloved grandmother to nine grandchildren: Dale (Laura), Jessica (Derek), Billy, John Paul, Stephanie, Cheyenne, Donovan, Brianne, Mayra (Marco); and six great-grandchildren; Mia, Lizzy, Mickael, Aryanna, Austin, Marco and one "Bunny" on the way.

Until the end, her family was what Martha lived for and was her greatest pride. She lived with pride, strength and dignity.

She had the ability to find happiness in the toughest times regardless of her daily struggles. Those struggles have ended, and she is at peace.
