Maria Gilma Huerta Portillo

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, who left us on July 22, 2024. Maria was a cherished wife, sister, devoted mother, and doting grandmother "nana" whose love and warmth touched the lives of everyone who knew her.

Born on September 6, 1944 in El Salvador, Maria brought joy and light to her family and friends with her kindness, generosity, and unwavering support. She is survived by her loving husband, Alberto, adoring daughters, Dolores (Justin) Fisher, Nuvia, and Marla (Esteban) Rascon; treasured grandchildren, Alex, Laila, Esteban Jr, Charlotte, Elias, and Mila; beloved sisters, Matilde, Marina, and Alejandrina.

Maria's legacy is one of love and dedication. She was the heart and soul of her family, always putting others before herself and offering a shoulder to lean on in times of need. Her laughter was infectious, and her smile could brighten even the darkest of days.

In her lifetime, Maria was known for helping others in need, she was a caregiver, an avid gardener, and a master at tailoring dresses. Maria had a unique gift for transforming fabric into elegant creations. She took great pride in crafting special garments for loved ones and the community. A passionate cook, Maria was renowned for her delicious pupusas, bringing family and friends together around the table.

In recent years, Maria faced the challenges of Alzheimer's disease with strength and grace. Her love for life and her family never wavered, and she inspired those around her with her resilience.

Services will be held at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church on October 4th 2024 with Rosary at 9:30 a.m. and Mass beginning at 10:00 a.m. Following the service, her ashes will be interned at Palo Verde Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to join us in honoring her memory and sharing the many beautiful memories she leaves behind.

Though Maria is no longer with us, her spirit and the love she shared will live on forever in our hearts. She will be deeply missed, but her memory will continue to inspire and guide us.

Rest in peace, Mom. Your love and light will forever remain with us.

Con profunda tristeza anunciamos el fallecimiento de nuestra amada madre, quien nos dejó el 22 de julio de 2024. María fue una querida esposa, hermana, madre devota y abuela "nana" cariñosa cuyo amor y calidez tocaron las vidas de todos los que la conocieron.

María nació el 6 de septiembre de 1944 en El Salvador. Trajo alegría y luz a su familia y amigos con su bondad, generosidad y apoyo inquebrantable. Le sobreviven su amado esposo, Alberto, sus adorables hijas, Dolores (Justin) Fisher, Nuvia y Marla (Esteban) Rascon; sus queridos nietos, Alex, Laila, Esteban Jr, Charlotte, Elias y Mila; sus queridas hermanas, Matilde, Marina y Alejandrina.

El legado de María es de amor y dedicación. Ella era el alma y el corazón de su familia, siempre poniendo a los demás antes que a ella misma y ofreciendo un hombro en el que apoyarse en los momentos de necesidad. Su risa era contagiosa y su sonrisa podía iluminar hasta los días más oscuros.

Durante su vida, María fue conocida por ayudar a los necesitados, era cuidadora, una ávida jardinera y una maestra en la confección de vestidos. María tenía un don único para transformar telas en creaciones elegantes. Se enorgullecía de confeccionar prendas especiales para sus seres queridos y la comunidad. María, una cocinera apasionada, era famosa por sus deliciosas pupusas, que reunían a familiares y amigos alrededor de la mesa.

En los últimos años, María enfrentó los desafíos de la enfermedad de Alzheimer con fortaleza y gracia. Su amor por la vida y por su familia nunca flaqueó, e inspiró a quienes la rodeaban con su resiliencia.

Se llevarán a cabo los servicios en la Iglesia Católica St. Joan of Arc el 4 de octubre de 2024, con el rosario a las 9:30 a.m. y la misa comenzando a las 10:00 a.m. Luego del servicio, sus cenizas serán enterradas en el cementerio de Palo Verde. Se invita a familiares y amigos a unirse a nosotros para honrar su memoria y compartir los hermosos recuerdos que deja.

Aunque María ya no está con nosotros, su espíritu y el amor que nos transmitió vivirán por siempre en nuestros corazones. La extrañaremos profundamente, pero su recuerdo seguirá inspirándonos y guiándonos.

Descansa en paz, mamá. Tu amor y tu luz permanecerán con nosotros por siempre.
