Lois
Betts
Mar 17, 1931 — Jul 2, 2021
Blythe
Missionary Lois Betts was born March 17, 1931 in Longview, Texas. She was one of sixteen children born to the union of Patrick and Leola Bowen. At the age of seven, her family moved to California where she completed the 12th grade. Mother Betts was active in sports with high achievements in school and was an active member of the St. John Baptist church in Ripley, California under the leadership of Pastor Polly. Later she met the love of her life, Edgar Lee Betts, and they were married in 1954 and raised five children: Timothy, Brenda, Edgar Jr., Gregory, and Alvin.
At the age of 18, Mother Betts was saved and filled with the Holy Ghost and became a member of White Rose COGIC in June of 1950. Her Pastor at that time was Elder John L. Hamilton and in 1954 after his death, Elder Lloyd Bowen was her Pastor. Mother Betts was very active in the district and worked diligently with her husband Deacon Betts who was the district Sunday School superintendent. Mother Betts was also a teacher for many years for the primary and junior Sunday school classes and the adult classes as well. She also worked with the Purity class and arranged field trips that would enrich their love for the Lord. She worked as secretary and treasurer for Greater White Rose Church and was continually active in the church.
When an opportunity arrived that allowed her to advance in higher education, she pursued that opportunity and was successful in that area, starting as a teacher's aide and later as a head start teacher for the County of Riverside for three years and then 29 years for the Palo Verde Unified School District. During this time, she completed her AA degree and credential in child development where she received many achievements such as becoming lead teacher and supervisor in the head start program.
Mom adored her husband, our father. She took care of her household and girded her loins with strength. Mom, you are very special to us and we love you with all our hearts.
Mother Betts leaves to cherish her memory three children Timothy (Tommie Lou Betts of Victorville, CA), Brenda (Ira Johnson of Buckeye, AZ) Gregory Betts of Blythe and one daughter-in-law Cathi of Phoenix, AZ; one grandson Michael Betts of Phoenix, AZ and one granddaughter Aviance Betts of Germany; two sisters, Viola Greer of Hemet, CA and Elizabeth Bowen Butler of Blythe; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Her husband, Edgar Betts, and two sons, Edgar Betts Jr. of Phoenix and Alvin Betts of Blythe, preceded her in death. One granddaughter also preceded her in death, Dayoneshia Betts of Blythe.
