Fleming was the last member of her close friends, known as the "Over the Hill Gang." She loved her favorite southern foods like corn bread, ham hocks and beans, biscuits and gravy, and collards.  Another favorite was her Dr. Pepper soda.  She attributed her long life to a daily Dr. Pepper.

Fleming supported herself with various occupations, working in a mortuary as a secretary, then for a woman with multiple sclerosis. She said the woman she cared for was the sister of a man who owned the Los Angeles Times. That job lasted 10 years.

After that, she worked in the fields for the Basic Onion Company, traveling all over California picking onions for 12 years. Her traveling companion was a cat named Mikki, who eagerly hopped in the car whenever there was a new destination.

But the work she enjoyed most, which didn't earn a paycheck, was bringing people comfort and hope from the Bible. Some may remember her coming to their door with a friendly greeting and a scriptural thought she wanted to share.

Lena was a strong, self-sufficient women, admired and loved by many.  She loved her dresses, her red lipstick and painted nails.

A visitation will be held at Frye Chapel on July 6, 2018 from 5 to 7 pm.  Memorial services will be Saturday, July 7, 2018 at 1 pm at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses at 190 N. 9th Street in Blythe.  Burial will take place Monday, July 9, 2018 at Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery, in Bakersfield, California.
