Obituary

Larry Glen Covel

July 26, 1948 – September 6, 2026

Larry Glen Covel passed away on September 6, 2026, at the age of 78. An avid outdoorsman, entrepreneur, and friend to many, Larry was, first and foremost, a devoted family man.

Larry was born on July 26, 1948, in Blythe, California. During his younger years, he lived in Lindsay, Oklahoma, before returning to Blythe, the community that would remain an important part of his life. He was a proud member of the Palo Verde High School Class of 1966.

It was during those years that Larry met the love of his life, Betty. The two were married on June 15, 1968, beginning a marriage and partnership that would span nearly six decades. Together, they built a beautiful family and a lifetime filled with love, hard work, adventures, and memories.

Larry and Betty had two children, daughter Carie and son Sean. His family grew to include three grandsons, Austin, Justin, and Seth Raborn; Seth’s wife, Nayeli; and three great-grandchildren, Lance, Greyson, and Marina Raborn. Larry treasured his family, and some of his greatest joys came from the time he spent with them.

Larry had a lifelong love for the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and hunter who especially enjoyed sharing those passions with his grandsons and his many friends. Whether fishing, hunting, cooking, or simply spending time together, Larry believed the best experiences were those shared with the people he cared about.

He enjoyed a long career with El Paso Natural Gas Company before retiring. But retirement could never mean sitting still for Larry. An entrepreneur at heart, he was always looking for ways to create new opportunities and a better life for his family.

Many will remember Larry as a great cook, particularly for his barbecue and smoked meats. Over the years, his entrepreneurial spirit took many forms, including Mr. C’s Catering and Smoking Barbecue, Mr. C’s Mini Mart, and Mr. C’s Small Engine Repair. Through these ventures and the countless relationships he formed along the way, Larry became known to many simply and affectionately as “Mr. C.”

Larry was a man who worked hard, loved deeply, and enjoyed sharing the things he loved with others. His legacy can be found not only in the businesses he built or the work he accomplished, but in his family, the lessons he passed down, the friendships he made, and the many memories created around a fishing hole, a hunting trip, a barbecue, or a family gathering.

Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Minnie Lou Swires; his father, Domer Eugene Covel; his beloved son, Sean Michael Covel; and his older brothers, Darrell Covel and Gary Covel.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Betty; his daughter, Carie; his grandsons, Austin, Justin, and Seth Raborn; Seth’s wife, Nayeli; his great-grandchildren, Lance, Greyson, and Marina Raborn; along with many extended family members and friends whose lives were touched by Larry throughout his 78 years.

To his family, he was a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. To his friends, he was a hunting and fishing partner, a great cook, a businessman, and someone they could count on.

And to so many who knew him throughout the years, he will always be remembered simply as Mr. C.

A memorial service for Larry will be held Thursday, September 17, 2026 at 10AM at Frye Chapel in Blythe.
