Katherine "Katie" Jones was born on August 31, 1925 in Longview, Texas to her parents Mack and Ollie Mae Bowen. At the age of three, her family moved to Ripley, California.
Katie grew up on the Bowen Family Farm, where she had numerous responsibilities at a very young age. She became a member of the St. Paul Baptist Church at an early age. Her schooling was interrupted during her high school years in order for her to help take care of the family and to manage the accounting books of the family farm for her Dad.
On October 7, 1942 Katie married the love of her life, Elmore Jones, in Quartzsite, AZ. They raised their family of 8 children in Blythe, CA. and shared 60 wonderful years together as husband and wife, as well as best friends.
Katie was, and still is, loved and respected by many. She was strong, intelligent, competitive, a wonderful conversationalist, had a great sense of humor, and was a caregiver in one form or another most of her life. She was a loving person, mother and "a diamond among us" who always welcomed everyone into her home and heart. Katie was a dedicated member of The Order of Eastern Star for many years.
Bowling, card games, dominos, Sudoku puzzles, cruising, visiting casinos, and road trips in the motorhome throughout California to Canada, were some of the activities Katie enjoyed. She was also an avid reader. Keeping her supplied with books was a challenge, as she read them at "warp speed"! Katie was also chosen to be interviewed for a book to share her pearls of wisdom. Katie was a fantastic cook! A few favorites were her homemade chocolate pies and her delicious fried peach and apple pies.
Katie peacefully departed this life to a place of eternal rest on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Palm Terrace Care Center in Riverside, CA.
Katie's surviving eight children are: Step-son Elmore Goolsby (Gloria), Riverside, CA; Frances Smith (Ponell), Morgan Hill, CA; Howard "Mike" Jones (Arvis), Smyrna, DE; Phyllis Anderson, Arlington, WA; Stanley Jones, Sr. Blythe, CA; Pamela Reese, San Bernardino, CA; Donna Rhodius (Sydney), La Porte, IN; and Susan Vega (David), Blythe, CA.
Katie also leaves three Brothers: Warren Albert Bowen, West Covina, CA; Larry Bowen and Gary Bowen, both of Blythe CA; as well as 11 Grand Children, 27 Great Grand Children, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family members that preceded Katie in death are her parents, Mack and Ollie Mae Bowen; Husband, Elmore Jones; Daughter, Janet Jones Campbell; and Bowen siblings, Clyde, Mack Jr., Kenneth, Robert, John, Donald, Marie, Gladys, Mary, Daylene, Myrtle and Geraldine.
