Obituary

On January 23, 2017, Joy Lee Jimenez left our loving care to be received in heaven to the arms of our Lord and Savior in Chandler, Arizona.

Joy was born in Strong City, Oklahoma on October 17, 1932 to R. E. and Floy Barrett. The family left Oklahoma after the end of the Great Depression in the early 1940's for El Centro, California to find work. They then traveled to Blythe, California to settle. Blythe was her home for 62 years. Joy attended Palo Verde High School and Palo Verde College. She married Ruben Jimenez and they raised their family while farming in the Palo Verde Valley as Jimenez Farms. She was a member of the Blythe Chapter of Soroptimist's International which she cherished her service deeply, a past board member of Palo Verde Hospital, and a member of Blythe Little League. She later joined her daughter in 2004 in Florence, Arizona to enjoy her retirement.

Joy Lee worked for JC Penney's, Bryce Farms and later as partner in Jimenez Farms.

Joy loved and cherished her family. She raised five children and her brother's daughter. She enjoyed reading, crafting, knitting, crocheting, and going to the casino. At one time, she was the proprietor of Joy's Yarns and Crafts, reflecting her love of her hobbies. She was a cherished grandmother and surrogate mother, at times, whose wisdom and care guided those who were in need of her.

Joy Lee was preceded in death by her husband Ruben Jimenez, daughter Lisa Jimenez, parents, R. E. and Floy Barrett, brothers, Wesley Barrett, Wayne Barrett, Floyd Barrett and baby brother Roy Aubrey.

Joy Lee is survived by her daughter Becki Guilin, Lindy Stewart (Paul), Mike Jimenez (Christine), Richard Jimenez (Patty) and niece Shawnna Stayner, eighteen grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, sister Luanne Geist (Verlin) of Fresno, CA, brother Bill Barrett (Beverly) of Modesto, CA and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Frye Chapel and Mortuary in Blythe, California on Monday, January 30, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., followed by burial services at Palo Verde Cemetery.
