Joseph White was born February 3, 1939 in his home by a midwife on South 2nd Street in Blythe. He was the tenth child born to Sam and Ianther White. When introduced to others, he would say "I am the baby of the family".

Joseph, AKA Joe, grew up on South 2nd Street - it was his playground. Aunt Sadie said, "We would hate for Joe to go anywhere with us because he was a tattletale and would tell momma everything".

Joe worked at various jobs. For his first job he shined shoes at his father's shoe shine stand. Oscar Ford, AKA 'Pumpkin', stated "Joe shined my shoes and I didn't have a nickel, so I told him I would pay him later. He walked all the way from Hobsonway to the South side 'for his nickel'.
He worked as a bus driver, a Custodian at the DMV and Unemployment office and he also worked at the Palo Verde Unified School District for 37 years.

Joe's first marriage was to Geraldine Haywood and to this union two children were born: Joseph Jr. and Marvin. Joe's second marriage was to Joyce Powels and to this union one child was born: Donna Jones. Till this day they are still married.

Joe was the captain of his own ship, things were ran his way unless his first mate (Joyce) said otherwise.
Joe had a routine every day, he got up at 6am and went to Winchells or Jerrys Restaurant where he drank his coffee and laughed with friends.

Joe passed on September 23rd at 9:45pm at John F. Kennedy Hospital in Indio, CA.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ianther; his father, Sam; brothers, Sam Jr., Albert, James, William (Bill), Daniel, Thomas (Tommy), Ernest and one sister, Janette Jones; son, Marvin White and grandson Brandon White.

He leaves behind to cherish his memories his wife of 47 years, Joyce White; his sister, Sadie Hines; his son and his wife Joseph Jr. and Christine White; his daughter and her husband, Donna and Anthony Jones; stepdaughter, Veronica and Ken Parrish; foster daughter, Alicia and Marlon Miles; niece, Denise and Hank Rivas; 11 grandkids; and a host of nieces and nephews who he loved.

Visitation will be on Monday October 4th from 6-8:00 p.m. at Frye Chapel. Funeral service will be Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. also at Frye Chapel with burial services following at Palo Verde Cemetery.
