Jesus "Chuy" Barreras Lara, quiet man, greaser wannabe with Cuban ambaitions, excellent dancer, Mambo lover, and bean eater extraordinaire, passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2020.

Chuy was a local who worked hard and held a variety of jobs over the years including horse caretaker for Akrakellian Farms, masonry, and groundskeeper, to support his little family.  He led a quiet and private life, living within his means, and was content to have one beer after work while visiting his neighbors.  He was an avid sports watcher and loved his Dodgers.  On summer weekends, you could find him at the Colorado River, laying in the shade, listening to the baseball games on his radio.  He loved food including tamales, menudo, and carne asada, but his absolute favorite were his wife's homemade beans.  there was ALWAYS a pot of beans cooking at home.

His favorite music genres were Mambo, Salsa, Cumbia, and loved listening to the Glenn Miller Orchestra.  His dancing skills were incredible! Nobody could ever keep up with him.  He was light on his feet and moved his legs with grace and style.

Chuy was a man of integrity, loyalty, and humbleness who lover his wife, Esthela, and did everything he could for his daughters, Jand and Veronica.  Not one of be affectionate, he showed it in his deeds instead.  He never allowed his children to witness any stress or struggles he may have had and he was too proud to accept assistance.  After moving to the United States, he immediately began the painstaking process of making his family naturalized citizens while struggling to communicate and learn the language.  He constantly told his kids to learn to speak and write english perfectly.  He was a man of few words but he was definitely proud of his two children and instilled hard work ethics and pride into them.  He loved his six grandchildren and was especially fond of the youngest, Ceejay.  He was born in Hermosillo, Sonora Mexico and was the eldest of numerous siblings.  They always looked to him for guidance an advice.

It was a joy to hear his laugh because he rarely did but he had a great sense of humor and enjoyed pushing mom's buttons after beating her at a game of Trouble.  He also loved rubbing his kids faces with his after a few days of not shaving and making them laugh and cringe.  He was a mix of sloppy and sharp dresser, wearing zoot suits aon special occasions with greased back hair and old jeans with flip flops regularly.

He rarely travelled for fun with the exception of visits to Nogales and Hermosillo.  He looked forward to the two weeks of being around the ;people he felt most comfortable with.  He felt like he could be himself without judgement.

In his older years, he enjoyed siting at McDonald's for hours drinking coffee or soda with his wife and taking the grandkids with him occasionally.  At home, he loved to sit outside for hours, taking naps with the sun shining on his face.

He is survived by his wife of forty-six, Esthela; his two daughters, Janet (Steve) Letendre; Veronica (Shain) Haas; grandson Dayniq Figueroa; granddaughter Viqtorya Padilla; granddaughter Samara Letendre; granddaughter Hayden Haas; grandson Gabriel (Gunner) Haas; granddaughter Ceejay Haas; numerous brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews.

There will be a memorial service at 10 am on Monday, February 10, 2020 at Frye Chapel and Mortuary in Blythe, California.

Jesús "Chuy" Barreras Lara, hombre tranquilo, excelente bailarin con ambiciones cubanas, amante del Mambo, y fanatico de los frijoles, falleció el miércoles 30 de enero de 2020.

Chuy fue un lugareño que trabajó duro y mantuvo una variedad de trabajos a lo largo de los años, incluyendo el cuidador de caballos para Arakelian Farms, mampostería y jardinero, para mantener a su pequeña familia. Llevaba una vida tranquila y privada, viviendo dentro de sus posibilidades, y se contentó con tomar una cerveza después del trabajo mientras visitaba a sus vecinos. Era un ávido observador deportivo y amaba a sus Dodgers. Los fines de semana de verano, lo podías encontrar en el río Colorado, a la sombra, escuchando partidos de béisbol en su radio. Le encantaba la comida, incluyendo tamales, menudo y carne asada, pero su favorito absoluto eran los frijoles caseros su esposa. Había SIEMPRE una olla de frijoles cocinando en casa.

Sus géneros musicales favoritos fueron Mambo, Salsa, Cumbia, y le encantó escuchar a la Glenn Miller Orchestra. ¡Sus habilidades de baile eran increíbles! Nadie podía seguirle el tiempo, era ligero en sus pies y movía las piernas con gracia y estilo.

Era un hombre de integridad, lealtad y humildad que amaba a su esposa, Esthela, e hizo todo lo que pudo por sus hijas, Janet y Veronica. No uno para ser cariñoso, lo mostró en sus trabajos en su lugar. Nunca permitió que sus hijos presenciara el estrés o las dificultades que hubiera tenido y estaba demasiado orgulloso de aceptar ayuda. Después de mudarse a los Estados Unidos, inmediatamente comenzó el minucioso proceso de hacer que su familia naturalizara a los ciudadanos mientras luchaba por comunicarse y aprender el idioma. Constantemente le decía a sus hijos que aprendieran a hablar y escribir inglés perfectamente. Era un hombre de pocas palabras, pero definitivamente estaba orgulloso de sus dos hijos e inculcó ética de trabajo duro y orgullo en ellos. Amaba a sus seis nietos y era especialmente aficionado al la más joven, Ceejay. Nació en Hermosillo, Sonora, México y fue el mayor de numerosos hermanos. Siempre lo buscaban para recibir orientación y consejo.

Fue una alegría escuchar su risa porque rara vez lo hacía, pero tenía un gran sentido del humor y disfrutaba haciendo a su esposar enojar siempre ganandole al juego de Trouble. También le encantaba frotar le torsión de sus hijos con los suyos después de unos días de no resurarse y hacerlos reír y encogerse. Era una mezcla de aparador descuidado y afilado, usando trajes de zoot en ocasiones especiales con pelo engrasado y jeans viejos con chanclas regularmente.

Rara vez viajaba por diversión con la excepción de las visitas a Nogales y Hermosillo. Esperaba con ansias las dos semanas de estar cerca de las personas con las que se sentía más cómodo. Sentía que podía ser él mismo sin juicio.

En sus años mayores, disfrutó sentado en McDonald's durante horas bebiendo café o refresco con su esposa y llevándose a los nietos con él de vez en cuando. En casa, le encantaba sentarse afuera durante horas, tomando siestas con el sol brillando en su cara.

Le sobrevive su esposa de cuarenta y seis años casados, Esthela; sus dos hijas, Janet (Steve) Letendre; Verónica (Shain) Haas; nieto Dayniq Figueroa; nieta Viqtorya Padilla; nieta Samara Letendre; nieta Hayden Haas; nieto Gabriel (Gunner) Haas; nieta Ceejay Haas; numerosos hermanos, hermanas, sobrinas y sobrinos.

Habrá un servicio conmemorativo a las 10 am el lunes 10 de febrero de 2020 en la Capilla y Mortuoría Frye en Blythe.
