Jennie
Naranjo
Mar 8, 1930 — Nov 30, 2020
Blythe
On November 30, 2020, surrounded by all her children, the Lord took the hand of Jennie Barreras Naranjo and guided her home.
Jennie was born to Rosario and Martina Barreras on March 8, 1930 in Blythe, CA. She was raised and lived in Blythe her entire life. Jennie attended the local schools in the area, included elementary school in Midland, CA. Jennie graduated from Palo Verde High School in 1949.
Upon graduation, Jennie began to take training in nursing and worked at Palo Verde Hospital as an aide. Jennie met Robert Naranjo and they married in 1952. Jennie and Robert started a family and had six children, Barbara Caldera (Richard), Vivian Hillbert, Patricia Poulter (Ernie), Frank Naranjo, Ida Hamblen (Philip) and Michael Naranjo (Yolette). Having children was Jennie's calling but being a great mother was her destiny.
Jennie was a hands on kind of mother. She taught her children to take care of themselves and each other. In her capacity as a parent, Jennie was a caretaker, coordinator, cafeteria worker, coach, counselor, and chauffeur.
Although parenting was her passion, Jennie wanted more and decided to enter the work force. After all she had a unique skill set and had experience with interacting with many people at home. Jennie worked at Hemphill's Shoes as a salesclerk. She was a specialist in children's shoes. Jennie was employed at Blythe Drug then landed a position as an office receptionist with Dr. Barry and Dr. Cook's office. Jennie worked there for close to twenty years. She loved that job, her co-workers, and the doctors.
Once the office closed, Jennie worked for a couple of other doctor offices and eventually retired to take care of Robert and her many grandchildren (16) and great-grandchildren (14). Bob and Jennie embarked on many adventures, but their favorite was casinos. They had a lot of fun with each other after 51 years of marriage, until Bob's untimely passing in 2003.
Jennie lived an ordinary life as an extraordinary woman.
Jennie will be greeted at the gates by her loving husband husband Robert Naranjo, her parents, brothers Manuel and James, her sisters Delores, Agnes, Francis, and Genevieve. There to greet Jennie as well are her grandchildren Richard Caldera Jr. and Victoria Hillbert.
Jennie leaves behind her sister, Mary Caldera Nichols, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and her dog Coco. She also leaves behind a legacy full of life, love and laughter.
