August 31, 2022 closed peacefully for Janet Darlene Sires Jones.  Cancer had tested her body for years.  After having a stroke in the year 2020, cancer was discovered in her body.  She met its challenges with medical care, loving care from friends, and determination to live.

The morning of August 31st, breathing was difficult for her. As she lay in her bed, two caretakers and two friends were with her rubbing her feet and holding her hands.  One friend, Marilyn Poe, called a former pastor, Matthews George, of First Baptist Church.  He prayed for God's peace and love to comfort Janet. Within twenty seconds her breathing eased and she passed from her earthly home to God's heavenly home for her.

Janet was born at Mission Hospital in Huntington Park, California on July 24, 1943 to Evelyn Lucille Skinner Sires and J.C. Sires, popularly known as Jiggs.  She passed away August 31, 2022 at her home.  She had two siblings, Linda Jeffcoat and Joel Sires.  She married and had no children.

Janet did not wait for life to happen. She had goals and energy. She became a hairdresser and practiced in Newport Beach, California.  Some of her clients were celebrities. Sometimes they included their family members such as John Wayne's wife. They appreciated her flair for design and precision as she cut their hair.

Flying was another of Janet's achievements. She earned her solo flight certificate as she successfully piloted a Cessna 150. It was a two-seat tricycle gear general aviation airplane and designed for flight training, touring, and personal use with a maximum range of 480 miles.  It was perfect for her plans! Her solo flight on August 16, 1971 was from Santana Helicopter Service, Inc.

Through several years Janet attended the Methodist Church and First Baptist Church in Blythe, California.

Dancing captured Janet's love for expressing rhythm and melodies with creative body movement.

In the fall of 2012, Janet began piano lessons with Barbara Steiner. Janet was diligent in practice whether she strove to master a lovely piece or getting her hands to smoothly play scales, chords, and singing tones. Not until sickness and her work intervened, did she stop in March 2016.

Becoming and being a real estate agent for Osbourne Realty was a goal Janet attained and worked diligently to practice successfully. As she did so, she continued to have clients for the care and design of their hair. As usual, she was meticulous and skilled.

Janet will be buried in a plot next to her mother at Palo Verde Cemetery. Friends may visit her grave marker, but they need never wonder where Janet is.  She was assured that she had committed her life to the Lord Jesus Christ. When her body died, she would be in the Lord's care and with Him.

Memorial Services will be held at Frye Chapel on Tuesday, September 13th, at 10 am.
