James
Davis
Sep 1, 1938 — May 26, 2020
Blythe
James Davis was born September 1, 1938 in Dumas, Arkansas to his parents John Davis Sr. and Luevine Patterson Davis; he was the fourth child of eight. James came to Blythe when he was approximately three years old. He attended the local schools and graduated from Palo Verde High School with the Class of 1958. He also attended Palo Verde Junior College for two years.
On May 27, 1969, he married the love of his life, Lurline Bennett, and from this union three children were born; Rochella Denise 'Nisey', Alicia Rene 'Lisa' and James Jr.
James was employed by the Palo Verde Unified School District for many years as a bus driver and custodian. He also worked for Kaiser Steel, California Highway Patrol as vehicle maintenance, Thirty Drug, Security Bank and Dr. Sparkle's as a custodian. He then worked and retired after many years with Albertsons.
There were no strangers in James' life. He always had a smile on his face and kind words. His friends were the reason he had the nickname 'Goose', because they all had one and he didn't. James loved playing baseball, working on cars, fishing and cooking. And he was known for his singing and humming. But most of all he loved his family; his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
As a child, James attended St. Paul Baptist Church. He encouraged his children to be the best at whatever it was they wanted to do in life.
James was preceded in death by his brother John Jr., mother Luevina, father John Sr., sister Arressie, brothers Wilbert and Herman and sister Verma Lee Davis.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Lurline; his children Rochella Denise Edwards, Alicia Rene Davis, both of Blythe, James Le Roy Davis Jr. of Spokane, WA and Michael Hemmitt of Phoenix, AZ; seven grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
James will be deeply missed by all who loved and knew him. James, we love you…but God loves you most. Sing and hum on James!
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 11th beginning at 9:00 a.m. with funeral services starting at 11:00 a.m. at Frye Chapel. Private interment will follow at Palo Verde Cemetery.
