James Edward Adams was born February 10, 1941 to Calvin (Sr.) and Lillian Adams. James was the second oldest of five children.

He attended the local schools here in Blythe. He became a member of Bethel AME Church at an early age and continued his devotion until August 2, 2020, when he went home to be with the Lord.

James learned the value of an honest day's work at an early age. As a teenager, he worked summers alongside his Father unloading trucks at Claypool's Market. After high school James continued to work in the service industry and was next employed at Mac's Steak House for a number of years. He then found the job where he would spend over 25 years--Courtesy Coffee Shop. James loved working at Courtesy and would wake up and be ready to go to work with a big smile on his face each and every day.

After retirement, James loved riding his bike all over Blythe. He would get up every morning jump on his bike and ride to the Mobil station to get his newspaper. While out he'd stop to visit with all the local retirees for their daily chat.

He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, including fishing with his good friend Joe White. He loved to eat, which was something we all witnessed quite frequently at our family gatherings. James loved watching television. His TV stayed tuned to the western channel or TV Land, so that he could watch movies, and shows like Gunsmoke, The Rifleman, Bonanza, Big Valley and High Chaparral, to name a few. James loved watching all sports, and watching them was his favorite pastime. He couldn't wait for church to be over on Sunday so he could spend the rest of the day watching football. He'd watch until the last game was finished on Sunday night.

James is survived by his four siblings, Yvonne Foster-Swayze (Keith) of Blythe, CA, Alvin Adams of Los Angeles, CA, Estella Thaxton (Henry) of Houston, TX and Calvin Adams, Jr. of Blythe, CA. In addition to his siblings, James leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends to cherish his memory.

Services will be held on Friday, August 14, 2020 at Frye Chapel with visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m. and funeral service at 11:00 a.m.  Graveside services will follow at Palo Verde Cemetery.
