On April 16, 2026, God called home Ismael Mario Cañez—a devoted father, proud grandfather, and a man whose presence brought warmth, strength, and laughter to everyone around him. Mario was born on October 27, 1968, in Yuma, Arizona, to his parents, Trinidad Lopez and George Cañez I. In the 70's, he moved with his mother and siblings to Blythe, California, where he was raised and built the foundation of the man he would become. He shared a deep love and bond with his mother and siblings, a connection that remained close to his heart throughout his life.
Mario was a hardworking man who spent much of his life working various cook positions, not just as a job, but as a way to serve others. He had a gift for bringing people together—whether through a meal, a conversation, or simply showing up when someone needed him most. He never hesitated to lend a hand, and his generosity and loyalty left a lasting mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

It was in Blythe where Mario met Mary Ann, with whom he shared a meaningful chapter of his life. During their time together as husband and wife, they were blessed with three sons—Anthony, Alec, and Aric—who became the center of his world and his greatest pride. Though their paths later changed, the family they built together remained one of the most important parts of his life.

Mario loved his boys deeply and showed it not just in words, but in the way he lived—through sacrifice, guidance, and unwavering support.

A man of strong faith, Mario carried his belief in Christ with quiet strength and conviction. He found joy in life's simple moments—watching his favorite teams, cheering on the Lakers, Dodgers, and standing proud as a loyal member of Raider Nation. His laugh, his stories, and his ability to make people feel at home will never be forgotten.

In 2024, Mario experienced one of life's greatest blessings—becoming a grandfather. His grandson, Santiago, brought him immense joy and pride, and he loved him deeply from the very beginning.

Mario is preceded in death by his mother, Trinidad Lopez; his father, George Cañez I; and his siblings, Andy Rojas, George Martin Cañez II, ,and Manuela Cañez. His maternal uncles, Ismael Lopez, Juan Lopez, and Armando Lopez.

He is survived by his three sons, Anthony (Michelle) Cañez, Alec Cañez, and Aric Cañez; his beloved grandson, Santiago Cañez; his sister, Aida Cañez; and many tias, nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends who will continue to carry his memory in their hearts.

Mario's legacy is one of love, resilience, faith, and loyalty—a life that, while not always easy, was lived with heart and purpose. He will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and always loved.

Visitation will be held at Frye Chapel on May 7th, 2026, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. Service will be held at Frye Chapel on May 8th 10:00 am followed by burial at Palo Verde Cemetery.
