Gloria DeRosa was born on February 17, 1928 in Hoboken, New Jersey and entered into rest August 17, 2020.
Her parents Gaetano DiGiacomo and Vitalena Cupiolo were both immigrants from Italy who settled in New Jersey in 1910. Gloria's father was a successful clothes designer and her mother was a seamstress. Gloria's father died when Gloria was 6 months old and she was raised by her mother in a small town of Leonia, New Jersey. She was the youngest of four girls. "The spitfire was saved for last," as her sister Irma put it. Irma and Gloria were very close growing up. In her younger years, Gloria loved to go dancing in New York City and watch as many Frank Sinatra movies as humanly possible. Whenever the music started, you would always find Gloria on the dance floor.
When she was attending college, she met a very handsome sailor, Patrick Frank DeRosa who had recently returned home from the war. They started dating and soon after were married on June 29, 1947. They had four children together. Gaetano Vito, Pasquale Francesco, Genevieve Elena, and Gina Marie. They moved to California in 1963 and settled in Orange County.
A women ahead of her times. While most in her era were housewives, she entered the computer industry and eventually owned and operated her own Data Processing Firm, Zephra Data Systems. She ran her company for over 25yrs in Los Angeles, California. Her Husband Patrick passed away in 1980 at the age of 55.
After retiring in 1993, she moved to Las Vegas, Nevada where she lived and enjoyed her well-deserved time off. She made many friends there and became actively involved in her Italian club.
In 2010, she decided she wanted to be closer to her family and moved to Blythe, Ca. to live with her daughter Gina. She enjoyed Thursday dinners at Sizzler with her girlfriends and the wonderful music at the music studio. She spent the last three years in Blythe Post Acute facility. She kept everyone on their toes and always said what was on her mind.
A great mom to her 4 children, 5 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She was vivacious, fun, and very loving to her family. Family first was her MO. Sunday pasta and pool parties for many, many years. Always a great time at the DeRosa house.
We love you and miss you MOM. Thanks for making us who we are.
Her eldest son Gaetano passed away in 2009 at the age of 58.
She is survived by her son Pasquale and Jeannie DeRosa, son in law Michael Gutierrez, daughter Genevieve and Jerry Zuchero, daughter Gina DeRosa and William White, granddaughter Jessica and Josh Sleigh, grandson Gerald Zuchero, grandson Pasquale and Kara DeRosa, grandson Nick and Stephanie DeRosa, grandson Kenneth and Nicole King. Great Grandchildren Zachery Zuchero, Jack and Jacob Sleigh, Walker, Marlie and Wells DeRosa, Kole and Konnor King.
