Gilbert Figueroa was born on February 20, 1930 in Parker, Arizona to Carmen and Danuario Figueroa.
As a child, Gilbert learned from his parents to treat others with respect, compassion and to speak up for the rights of others. Living his life as taught, Gilbert was active in his community by helping others prepare for citizenship exams, helping others start businesses, promoting education and he played an active role in the civil rights movement as it played out in his community of Blythe, California and abroad.
While working toward and promoting a better America, Gilbert answered his call to duty and he served his country honorably in the Korean War.
Gilbert Figueroa, 91, passed on May 19, 2021 with his family by his side in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia (Mary) Figueroa, his brother Danuario Figueroa and his baby brother, Rodolfo. He is survived by his daughter, Mary Ybarra, Norma Tellez, Christine Davis (Jack), Eloisa Edmonds (Tony) and son, Rudy Figueroa (Esmeralda). His sister, Norah Figueroa, brothers, Alfredo Figueroa and Miguel Figueroa, as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation and services will be held on Friday, June 18, 2021 at 9:00 a.m. at Frye Chapel. A mass will be held at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church at 11:00 am with burial services following the mass at the Palo Verde Cemetery.
