Eva Aguilar Ramos, previously Eva Gomez

Eva Aguilar Ramos, 82, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2022, in Indio, California of natural causes.

She was born on August 12, 1940, to Estanislado Aguilar and Carmen Barajas in Tonala, Jalisco, Mexico. She married Roberto P. Gomez in 1959, and they resided in Mexicali, Baja California, where they had their three sons. In 1965, through the historic Bracero Program her husband participated in, Eva was able to immigrate to the United States. Eva's career after immigrating was in farm labor; she worked in countless fields with crops such as lettuce, melons, and cotton, among many others. In 1969 she purchased her first rental property, a triplex, and this started her new career in real estate investment.  She enjoyed the work that came with it, and by 1985 this new career took off which allowed her to quit her farm labor work. Alongside her husband, Roberto, they reached 34 tenants between Blythe and Mexicali. Upon their divorce in 1994, the properties were divided amongst the two, and some were given to their sons. In 2007 she partnered with her youngest son, Hector Gomez, who remodeled homes and built her real estate business to over 50 tenants by Eva's passing. Little did Eva know in 1969 that she would be starting a family legacy to continue for generations to come.

Eva was a giving person and helped many individuals in and outside her community. She helped many people find their first rental home and helped others who simply needed a room to stay. One of Eva's best-known good deeds dates back through the 70's and 80's where she had boarding houses. Here, she invited immigrants to have a meal and provided a place to stay. With only a few bucks, she helped them find jobs to sustain themselves. From these deeds she received many "thank yous" which motivated her to continue this work. Many recipients from these acts of kindness moved on to better themselves and became thriving citizens and business owners in the Blythe community, and still remain here to this day. During her yearly travels to Mexico, she drove down in a truck filled with clothing to give to the needy; it brought her so much joy when she saw people wearing the clothes she brought for them. During these visits, she also took the less fortunate to doctors to receive the medical attention they needed but could not afford. Above all, she supported her three boys emotionally and financially when they needed her.

Eva was an amazing mother, wife, grandmother, friend, and entrepreneur. She will be missed greatly by her family and the community she helped so much. She will especially be missed by her youngest granddaughter Evana Gomez, who kept her spirit young; they played house, dolls, and drew together until her passing.

Eva is survived by her sons Hector (Elsa) Gomez, grandchildren Sherlyn Zarate, Casandra Aguilar Mendoza, Jason, Artemio and Evana Gomez. Roberto (Jodie) Gomez grandchildren Victoria, Eli, Ruby and Amber Gomez. Arturo (Rosalba) Gomez grandchildren Arturo Jr.  and Lizette Gomez. Aurora Aguilar Alvarez (sister).

She was preceded in death by her parents Estanislado Aguilar and Carmen Barajas, her ex-husband Roberto P. Gomez and brothers Manuel, Ruben and Benjamin Aguilar.

Visitation will be held Friday November 18th, 2022 from 5 to 8 pm at Frye Chapel with Rosary at 7pm held at 633 N. 7th Street Blythe, CA. Church service will be Saturday, November 19th, at 1 pm at St Joan of Arc Catholic Church 875 E. Chanslor Way, Blythe CA.

Eva Aguilar Ramos, 82, falleció en paz y por causas naturales el 30 de octubre de 2022 en Indio, California. Eva nació el 12 de agosto de 1940 en Tonala, Jalisco (México). Fue la hija de Estanislado Aguilar y Carmen Barajas y se casó con Roberto P. Gomez en 1959, con quien vivió en Mexicali, Baja California. Allí tuvieron tres hijos. En 1965, gracias al histórico Programa Bracero en el que su esposo participó, Eva pudo migrar a los Estados Unidos. Después de migrar, se dedicó al trabajo del campo en numerosos campos de lechuga, melones y algodón, entre otros. En 1969 compró su primera propiedad, un triplex, y empezó una nueva carrera invirtiendo en finca raíz. Disfrutó de este trabajo y en 1985 su nueva carrera despegó, esto le permitió renunciar a su trabajo en el campo. Junto con su esposo Roberto, llegaron a tener 34 arrendatarios entre Blythe y Mexicali. Después de su divorsio en 1994, se dividieron sus propiedades y algunas de ellas fueron heredadas a sus hijos. En 2007 trabajó con su hijo menor, Hector Gomez, quien remodelaba casas, y construyeron un negocio de finca raíz que llegaría a tener más de 50 arrendatarios para el momento en que Eva falleció. Eva jamás habría imaginado en 1969 que establecería un legado familiar que continuaría por generaciones.

Eva fue una persona generosa y ayudó a muchos, tanto en su comunidad como fuera de ella. Ayudó a personas que debían encontrar su primera propiedad en arriendo y a otros que simplemente necesitaban un cuarto donde quedarse. Una de las obras benéficas más conocidas de Eva tuvo lugar entre los años 70 y 80, cuando estableció pensiones. Allí invitaba a los migrantes a comer y les daba un lugar para quedarse. Con tan solo unos pocos dólares, les ayudaba a encontrar trabajo y a sostenerse. Gracias a estas obras recibió muchos agradecimientos que la motivaron a continuar con su trabajo. Muchos de quienes recibieron su generosidad progresaron y se convirtieron en ciudadanos y emprendedores exitosos que aún viven en la comunidad de Blythe. En sus viajes anuales a México llevaba un camión lleno de ropa para ofrecerla a quienes la necesitaban; ver a las personas usando la ropa que ella había traído para ellos le traía una inmensa alegría. Durante estas visitas también llevaba a los menos afortunados al doctor para que recibieran la atención médica que necesitaban pero no podían pagar. Sobre todo, apoyó a sus tres hijos emocional y financieramente cuando la necesitaron. Eva fue una madre, esposa, abuela, amiga y empresaria excepcional. Será extrañada por sus amigos y la comunidad a la que ella tanto ayudó. Especialmente la extrañará su nieta menor, Evana Gomez, quien rejuvenecía su espíritu jugando con muñecas y dibujando con ella hasta su fallecimiento.

Le sobreviven sus hijos Hector (Elsa) Gomez, sus nietos Sherlyn Zarate, Casandra Aguilar Mendoza, Jason, Artemio y Evana Gomez. Roberto (Jodie) Gomez, sus nietos Victoria, Eli, Ruby y Amber Gomez. Arturo (Rosalba) Gomez, sus nietos Arturo Jr. y Lizette Gomez. También su hermana Aurora Aguilar Alvarez.

Le precedieron en la muerte sus padres Estanislado Aguilar y Carmen Barajas, ex esposo Roberto P. Gomez y hermanos Manuel, Ruben y Benjamin Aguilar.

El velorio se llevará a cabo el viernes 18 de noviembre de 2022 entre las 5 y las 8 pm. El rosario empezará a las 7pm en Frye Chapel 633 N. 7th Street Blythe, CA. El servicio tendrá lugar el sábado 19 de noviembre a la 1 pm en St Joan of Arc Catholic Church 875 E. Chanslor Way, Blythe CA.
