Doyle Ovey Pittman was born at home in Enterprise, Louisiana on December 14, 1934. He was born during "The Great Depression" and times were hard. He was the eldest of seven brothers and one sister.

The family lived on his Grandpa William Pittman's farm in Enterprise. The population was around 75. They were sharecroppers growing and picking cotton. Doyle was picking cotton by the time he was five years old. He had his own little cotton picking sack. The work was extremely hard in the hot and humid climate of Louisiana during the late summer harvest. He once fainted picking cotton as a small child.

Doyle attended grammar school in Enterprise and middle school in Epps, Louisiana. He wasn't able to finish school because he needed to work to help keep the family afloat. He later received his GED.

His grandpa William would later lose his farm due to unpaid back taxes. It was not uncommon for famers to lose their land because of unpaid taxes during the depression.

The family then moved to Epps, Louisiana working on farms and for a time delivering blocks of ice to the local residents.

Feeling resigned to his fate, Doyle as a teenager thought about saving enough money to buy two mules to continue farming. At age seventeen he decided that there has got to be something better out there, so he headed out west as some of his uncles already had.

After working in Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona while living with family members it wasn't long before the rest of the family headed west along with some neighbors from Louisiana. They all ended up settling in Arizona.

Doyle joined the Marine Corp in 1954 and was Honorably Discharged in 1959. Once discharged he headed to Buckeye, Arizona where his parents and siblings were living. He held several jobs that included farming, bartending, and as a caster at Reynold's Metals in Phoenix, Arizona.

Eventually, Doyle met and married Patricia Oliver in February 1960. Six years later he lost his young wife in a car accident and was left a single father.

He left Arizona for California in search of a better job. His brother Ronald worked at Thatcher's Glass Factory in Newhall and helped him get hired there. Soon he headed back to Phoenix and applied for a job with Arizona Department of Agriculture Port of Entry. He landed a job at the Ehrenberg, Arizona Port of Entry and moved to Blythe, California with his young daughters in early 1968.

While working at the Port of Entry he was looking to remarry when he met Virginia Orozco. She worked at Sire's Singer Sewing Machine and Fabric Shop. They married in October 1968.

Doyle accepted a promotion to Douglas, Arizona as Chief Inspector at the port in 1974, then a lateral transfer to Parker, Arizona in 1976 and back to Ehrenberg, AZ as Chief in 1977. He purchased a home on North 8th Street where he lived for the rest of his life.

Doyle retired from the State of Arizona in 1999. He and Virginia traveled a bit during their retirement. He also took up walking the countryside of the Palo Verde Valley, walking many miles north and south of Interstate 10. He spent lots of time with his daughters and grandchildren.

He was also an avid reader. He always had a book, newspaper, or magazine in his hands, preferring military history and biographies. In addition to reading, he enjoyed listening to his albums. He preferred instrumental music by musicians such as Floyd Cramer, Burt Bacharach, Henry Mancini, and Peter Nero. He also loved his country music. His favorite artists were Hank Williams Sr., Johnny Cash, and Marty Robbins.

He was preceded in death by his parents Wilmer Earl and Hazel Pearl Pittman, his first wife Patricia Pittman, his second wife Virginia Pittman, brothers Wilford (Blackie) Jasper Pittman, William (Beau) Henry Pittman, Merkle Earl Pittman, Ronald Lee Pittman and sister Jeanette Elnora Donaldson.

He is survived by his daughters Karen Payne of La Quinta, CA, Kimmie Pittman of Blythe, CA, Lisa Pittman of Chico, CA, his two brothers George Gale Pittman and Wilmer Book Pittman, grandchildren Leo Lumer, Andrea Jimenez, Robby Shelton, Ryan Shelton, Landon Shelton, Justin Lawson, Kaysin Pittman, Danielle and Gage Dupper, Kimmie Rose Duhigg, great-grandchildren, Cyrus and Elyse Jimenez, Dylan and Devin Shelton, Aiden and Riley Lawson, Joel Dupper, Elizabeth and Tyler Jr. Salcido, and the newest addition baby Kaylee Roseman who Doyle was able to meet before he passed on.  Also many nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Services for Doyle will be held at Frye Chapel and Mortuary on Monday, December 2nd with visitation starting at 9 a.m. and funeral service beginning at 10 a.m.  Military Honors and burial will follow at Palo Verde Cemetery.
