Dorothy Jones passed away at the age of 91, in Payson, Arizona. Having been in declining health for some time, she went peacefully in her sleep, with her daughter, Marsi, by her side.
Dorothy was born in Syracuse, Kansas to Drennan and Nora Kelley. When she was 8 years old, suffering from rheumatic fever, the fmaily moved to Twin Falls, Idaho, hoping to improve her health. As a teenager, Dorothy lived with an aunt in Bellflower, California, where she for McDonald-Douglas Aircraft. She was "Rosie the Riveter" for a time. At a dance in Long Beach, Dorothy met a cute sailor, Virgil Jones. They married February 13, 1945 and moved to his hometown of Las Cruces, New Mexico to farm.
In 1949 they bought a farm in Blythe, California, because of the plentiful water for irrigation from the Colorado River. Virgil raised cattle and grew alfalfa. In 1951, Dorothy was excited to have her family from Idaho move to Blythe. That same year, daughter Marsi was born, and then in 1952, son Mark was born.
Dorothy was an avid reader. She was very involved in community affairs, including membership in Blythe Bridge Club, Jaycee-ettes, and a 50 plus year member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She and Virgil loved to go western dancing, travel, boat and water ski. They also enjoyed camping, and watching son Mark race motorcycles.
They were blessed with 5 grandchildren, and loved spending time with them. Dorothy was very proud of her 7 great grandchildren, as well.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter Marsi Howell, and son Mark Jones, grandchildren, Kevin (Erica) Anderson; Amber (Jerome) Knopp; Tyler Nicholson; Alex (Victor) Padilla and Kasey Jones, great-grandchildren, Annie, Wyatt and Cooper Anderson; Hailey, Dy;an and Lacey Knopp; and Rowdy Jones Nicholson.
She is also survived by her niece Darlene (Stan) Flandi, niece Penny Sensney and nephew Bruce Shropshire, great nieces and nephews, Glen (Sharon) Flandi, Kelli (Christian) DeMent, Ryan (Amy) Sensney, Becky Sensney and Adam (Audrey) Sensney.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Virgil, her parents Drennan and Nora Kelley, her sister and brother-in-law Hazel and Les McCain, and just 3 months ago, her son-in-law Doug Howell.
She will be honored at a Memorial Service on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Frye Chapel in Blythe, California. Then, Dorothy will be laid to rest next to her husband Virgil at Palo Verde Cemetery.
