Dorothea Augusta Hoover

(1935-2021)

Dorothea Augusta Hoover (Dottie), 86, of Blythe, California passed away on July 20th, 2021, at home surrounded by family.

Dottie was born in Phoenix, Arizona on March 18th, 1935. She attended high school in Casa Grande, AZ.  Shortly after starting school she stopped attending because girls could not participate in FFA or wear jeans to school. From there she started working. Dottie worked in many different industries. She started a very successful cattle business after leaving high school that ended up becoming her family's legacy. Dottie was very artistic, attending the American Art Institute in her spare time. She started painting as a young teen, selling her paintings professionally alongside the family business.

Dottie was unbelievably talented and continued using her artistic abilities from a young girl until 2017. At age 18, Dottie rode with Gene Autry and the Cremer's Rodeo Company where she starred as part of the color guard, putting on rodeo events throughout the United States.

Shortly after finishing her tours with the Rodeo Show her family decided to sell the ranch in Casa Grande and move to Blythe, California. They transitioned the cattle business to Blythe where Dottie traveled around showing their Registered Cattle at livestock shows. She was the first person to ever exhibit Registered Charolais Cattle in the livestock industry. Winning many Championships, she opened the world of livestock shows to a new breed of cattle.

Dottie then met her husband, Ray, and was married to Louis Raymond Hoover through a traditional Catholic Ceremony here in Blythe, California at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. They were happily married for 42 years before Dottie was widowed in 2004.

She transitioned to Farming and Agriculture before finishing her education and career path to become a Successful Realtor and Broker in Blythe California, for over 40 years, opening her own real estate company, Palo Verde Land.

She always enjoyed arts and crafts like painting, breeding, and raising animals; from Horses to Buffalo, Rodeoing, and spending time with her family hunting, camping, and 4-wheeling. Dottie spent many years as a 4-H Leader, started and was president of Club 44 – Blythe Riding Club, and was always actively involved in St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church.

Dorothea Augusta Hoover (Dottie) is survived by her sisters- Mary and Gloria, nieces and nephews; Children- Raymond & Wife Valerie, Ralph & Wife Mary, Richard, Dorothea (Little Dottie) & Husband Tim, Russell & Wife Cheri, and Dianna & Husband Jamie; Grandchildren- Scott, Cari Beth, Hannahrose, Dillon, Mathew, Dalton, Jonathan, Brittany, Bernadette, Courtney, Casey, Devin, Jacob, Cheyenne, Justin, Declan, Cassidy, Hayley and Sandy; Great Grandchildren – Mikey, Hailey, Jaxson, Raelynn, Elayna, Francis, Aurora, Lilian and Jameson, along with many other family and friends.

Dorothea Augusta Hoover (Dottie) is preceded in death by husband- Louis Raymond Hoover; Mother – Dorothea E Van Horn; Father- George E Van Horn; Brothers - Laurent Van Horn, George Van Horn, William (Commando) Van Horn; Grandchildren – Raymond C. Hoover (RC), Devan Hoover, and Caitlin Hoover; Great Grandchild – Caily Ray Hoover, and many other friends and family.

Our family wishes to express our heartfelt appreciation for the kindness and excellent care our Mother, Grandma, and Friend Dorothea Augusta Hoover, received during her time with Palo Verde Valley Hospital and The River Valley Hospice Team. Of course, we are very saddened by her passing, but we are comforted in knowing that she received the best care, service, and hospitality around. The sensitivity and support of your amazing staff helped us through what was a very difficult time, and we will never forget your kindness. Please express our appreciation to Dr. Lucero, Martha, Janneth, Melodie, Caryne, Chris, Angela, Charles, Joan and everyone else who worked with Dottie during her final days. Bless you all!!

Visitation will be held on Friday August 6th, 2021, from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm, at Frye Chapel & Mortuary.

Services will start with the Rosary at 10:00 am, followed by Mass at 11:00 am on August 7th, 2021, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Funeral arrangements are being handled by her beloved family.
