Doris E.
Morgan
Oct 6, 1930 — Dec 15, 2022
Blythe
Doris Elaine (Young) Morgan, 92, passed away December 15, 2022 at her home in Blythe, California.
Doris was born in Blythe, California October 6, 1930 to Herbert C. and Irene (Copeland) Young.
Doris worked and served as a nearly lifelong occupation. When her mother died, she helped care for her siblings. When her father and younger brother Johnny died, her responsibilities increased. Aunt Bernice Young came to live and help the family. Doris' sister Marilyn was injured and Doris assisted and encouraged. She began working in high school at the Richard S. Williams Car Dealership to give financial support to the family.
Despite many home and job responsibilities, Doris was valedictorian of her high school class. She was enthusiastically involved in First Baptist Church. She had become a Christian at age sixteen.
Doris became a capable, dependable, and brilliant leader in Blythe and county positions. Some of her commitments were as the only female Blythe town mayor, serving on Blythe City Council, working energetically for many years on the county board of Office on Aging, faithful acceptance of responsibilities at First Baptist Church, service on the local cemetery board and the local hospital board, helping small businesses with financial management, working for many years as the financial director of the Charley Graham Car Dealership, mentoring and tutoring local students, and being a champion for Blythe!
Her family extended far beyond blood ties. Her concerns were genuine and never performed for credit or attention. Throughout the town and county, she was widely respected.
Doris is survived by her sister Marilyn Poe, Barry and Donna Neel and family, Richard and Rosemary Neel and family, Al Morgan and family, Lee Richards and family, and Chuck Hays and family.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at 10:00 A.M. at First Baptist Church on 100 W. Murphy (corner of Murphy and Broadway), Blythe, California 92225.
