With heavy hearts we said goodbye to Donald Joseph De Meyer on July 17, 2026. He was born December 10, 1955, the youngest child, to Palo Verde Valley pioneer family George De Meyer and LaRita De Meyer in Blythe, CA.
He was a freewheeling, generous man that obtained his Diesel Mechanic Certification from College of The Desert. He grew up on the family acreage helping with the animals and the annual harvests. He was active in the church community of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church especially during the annual bazaars with the dunk tank that he built and would freely offer his assistance to others.
He met the love of his life one night while helping Teresa Sanchez Martinez when her car would not start at Don Julian's restaurant. Donald, Teresa and daughter, Talia, enjoyed 37 years together as a family until his death.
Donald's employment included working along side his family in the custom harvesting business, a mechanic at PVID, and a maintenance mechanic for the CA Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
Donald enjoyed using his mechanical knowledge and ability to modify vehicles that would fit his needs: He decided that he liked the dog breed of pugs and bred quite a few litters. He also loved having love birds in his home.
Donald is survived by his wife, Teresa, his step-daughter, Talia Martinez, brother Steven De Meyer, sister-in-law Robin Sheffler De Meyer, sister Barbara Fugatt, brother-in-law, John Fugatt, sister Theresa Quintero, brother-in-law, Manuel Quintero, many nieces and nephews and cousins and his dog, Spike.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and LaRita De Meyer, in-laws Ramon and Andrea Sanchez, brother, James Allen De Meyer, and brother-in-law, Raymond Sanchez.
Frye Chapel is assisting with the Memorial Service that will be held on Friday, November 13, 2026 at the St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, starting with a Rosary at 10:00 followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:00.
