Obituary

Debra Ann Mitchell was born on August 20, 1957 in Scranton, Pennsylvania to Skip and Liz Beynon and entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, January 9, 2019. She was 61 years young.

Debbie was born in Scranton, PA, but moved back to Blythe at the age of 4. During her early years, she enjoyed taking dance classes, and playing outside with her brothers and sisters. In 1969, at the age of 12, she moved back to Scranton, with her family. In Scranton, she was involved in numerous clubs and was a baton twirler during her high school years. Scranton also was where she met the father of her two children. In 1976, she moved back to Blythe with her family.

Debbie started working at Palo Verde College in 1991, in the Human Resources Department. Education was so important to Debbie that she received her Associates Degree in Accounting from the college. Debbie retired as the Director of Human Resources in December 2016 after 27 years of service in various capacities. Even though she retired, she still wanted to serve her community and her college, and in December 2016, she was elected to the Palo Verde College Board of Trustees where she served as Vice President of the board in 2017-18, and was currently President of the Board.

Debbie met her husband Jerry Mitchell in 1991, while working at Dobbs, and they were married on April 14th, 2001 in Todd Park's Gazebo. Together, they loved to travel, going to see Arizona Diamondback baseball games, watching the Dallas Cowboys play football, and spending time together at their home in Payson, Arizona.

Her sons AJ and Timmy were her pride and joy. She did everything she could to make sure that they had everything they needed and wanted, even working multiple jobs to make sure they didn't go without. When her sons married, she welcomed Stephanie and Jennifer into the family, treating them as her own daughters. Debbie also gained a son, Perry, when she married her husband Jerry. With her kids, Debbie loved to plan weddings, baby showers, birthdays, holidays, and loved any reason to go with them on vacation.

Debbie's world revolved around her grandkids, Taylor, Kaylie, Abigail, and Lily. To them she was Nana, and she could never say no. Nana was at all of their births and birthdays, and always there to pick them up from school, take them to dance, cheer them on at baseball games, and watch them at recital. Nana never missed a chance to watch them perform or receive awards. Nana made sure to share her love for all things Disney, Harry Potter, completing puzzles, arts and crafts, and video games. In fact, she loved going with them to Disneyland on a regular basis, taking them on rides, watching the parades, and enjoying the Fireworks. While she considered Disneyland her "Happy Place," sharing it with her family made it magical.

Debbie is survived by husband Jerry; her three sons A.J. (Stephanie), Timmy (Jennifer), and Perry; Grandchildren Taylor, Kaylie, Abigail, and Lily; Parents Liz and Skip; siblings Vikki, Kathleen (Jim), and Darren (Susan); and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her older brother Larry. She is also survived by her puppy Darby, cat Tut, and turtle Buddy.

Memorial Services for Debbie will be held on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Frye Chapel & Mortuary, followed by a gathering at Palo Verde College in CS123/124. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, you kindly make a donation in her name to Palo Verde College Foundation as they would like to set up the Debra Ann Mitchell Memorial Scholarship Fund in her memory.
