Obituary

Daniel C. Soto, 66, passed away with his family by his side on June 28, 2023. He was born on the beautiful day of December 12, 1956 in Blythe, CA to Oscar and Lillie Soto.

Danny attended Margaret White Elementary School and graduated from Palo Verde High School in 1975.

Danny loved sports, growing up he played flag football, but his love and passion was for baseball. His best years playing baseball were in the senior league playing on the Aggies and playing for legendary coach Ruben Jimenez. He was a good hitter batting from both sides of the plate. But he did brag a lot on how awesome of a center fielder he was. Also, he was a good bowler. Danny loved talking trash and was really good at that as well.

His passion for sports was awesome, of course his favorite MLB team was the Los Angeles Dodgers and he loved the "showtime era" of the Los Angeles Lakers. When it came to football his Chicago Bears and the Super Bowl Shuffle was his team. His Idol/favorite player was Jim McMahon and he thought the world of him. Danny would wear head bands and wrist bands, especially while coaching. He reminded us of Dusty Baker wearing the wrist bands while coaching. He loved and had a passion for coaching Elisa and girls softball. He was so dedicated to coaching and he literally groomed Elisa into a mini Danny Soto on the field. She wore the head bands and wrist bands and played hard like she was coached.

Growing up Danny had aspirations of playing for the Los Angeles Dodgers, but in 1974 he met the love of his life in Yolonda Guilin. They got married in December of 1975 and started their family in 1977 with the birth of their son Daniel G. Soto Jr. Then along came Elisa Renee in 1981.

Danny worked for our dad at Oscar's Stop N Shop in Palo Verde. He also worked in the local packing sheds. He sold produce as a kid with our Tata Emil Soto. Later on in his life, he went to work at Ironwood State Prison in 1999 and retired in 2012.

That's when life started for Danny in the sense of having the time of his life with his grandkids. He was the proudest Tata we've ever known. He would fly back to North Carolina so he could be with his grandkids.

Danny is survived by his wife of 47 years Yolanda Guilin Soto, son Daniel G. Soto Jr., daughter Elisa R. Almquist (Kirk), grandkids Kody, Marielena and Kase Almquist, mom Lillie C. Soto, brothers Arturo Soto, Oscar Soto Jr. (Shelly), Emil Soto (Andrea) and sister Marsha Patino.

Danny was preceded in death by his dad Oscar G. Soto (Big "O"), grandparents Emil and Beatrice Soto, Joe and Mary Caldera and brother-in-law Jose (Joey) Patino. Danny will be greatly missed by family and friends but will never be forgotten.
