Obituary

Clifford M. Mowbray, 71, passed away at his home in Thousand Palms, California on August 8th, following a long and bitter battle with cancer. He was born in Blythe on March 5, 1947, the youngest child of Martin George Mowbray and Juanita Mae Mowbray. He graduated from Palo Verde High School in 1965, attended Palo Verde College, and graduated with a degree in Animal Science from Cal Poly Pomona.

He married Carol Ann Overman on July 4th, 1969, and they moved first to Tracy, California, then to Friona, Texas with Holly Sugar Corporation where he was a field representative and operated three outside rail stations for the delivery of sugar beets. Their oldest son, Jeff, was born in Friona.

He went to work for Security Pacific Bank in 1973 as an agricultural appraiser, and they moved back to the desert, this time living in the Imperial Valley. Their children, Robert and Jennifer were born in El Centro. In 1978 he was given the opportunity to return to Blythe as a loan officer with the bank. They remained in Blythe until 1989. While there, he was active in Rotary, was the caller for the Happy Hoofers equestrian drill team, and participated in many Blythe Riding Club rides. After the bank transferred him back to the Imperial Valley, he went to work for Torrence's Farm Implements as their controller. In 2002, he went back into banking with Valley Independent Bank (soon to become Rabobank) in Palm Desert, where he was fortunate to have the Palo Verde Valley as part of his portfolio. He retired in 2012. He enjoyed going to the river, spending time in Beaver, Utah, trail riding with friends in the desert, and working in his garden.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and older brother, Sam. He is survived by his brother, Phil (Linda) Mowbray, his wife, Carol, three children - Jeff (Kim) Mowbray, Robert (Crystal) Mowbray, and Jennifer (Nathan) Goodsell - and eight grandchildren.
