Betty Sue Pitts was born in East Prairie, Missouri on September 2, 1936 to James and Inez Farmer. She left us to be with the love of her life, Jessy Ray (JR) Pitts, on Saturday November 16, 2019. Betty came to the Palo Verde Valley on a train at the age of 6 years old. She fondly remembered singing to the traveling soldiers while on that ride. She continued singing all the way through high school with her good friend Vannie. It was in high school that she met Jessy and they soon fell in love and married on March 8, 1953. They later had two sons, Dalton and Daryl. They spent 66 years building their legacy.

Betty began her career working for Edison, after several years she made a bold move and accepted a position at the Automobile Club of Southern California. Betty was a true pioneer for all women during this time in a man's world. She may have been a tiny woman, but there was no overlooking Betty's dynamic personality and intelligence. She eventually became the first female District Manager of the Automobile Club of Southern California. She took pride in her career and because of her excellence and bold determination she helped pave the way for women to break into jobs that might have otherwise gone to men.

Betty's family always came first, even up to her very last breath. She loved each and every family member with her whole being. She supported them and loved them through the good times and the bad. The family has lost their champion.

Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband Jessy Ray Pitts.
She is survived by her two sons, Dalton (Elena) and Daryl of Blythe, CA.. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren; Amy Barreras (Albert) of Yukon, OK, Dana Adams (Ronnie) of Blythe, CA, Porscha Shoemate (Jacob) of Pottsboro , TX, Sabrina Guilin of Phoenix, AZ, and Daryl Jr. Pitts of Blythe, CA.. Betty was also blessed to be a part of her five great-grandchildren's lives whom she loved dearly; Daniel and Vic Barreras, Joel Pitts, Benjamin and Cienna Shoemate.

A graveside service honoring Betty's memory was held on Monday, November 25, 2019 at the Palo Verde Valley Cemetery.
