Bertha (Lugo Bernal) Rodríguez, falleció pacíficamente en su casa en Blythe, California, el martes, 19 de septiembre.

Bertha nació en un pueblo mágico llamado Ocoroni, Sinaloa, el día 10 de julio, 1935.  Fue hija primogénita del matrimonio de Nabor Lugo y María Bernal.  Pasó su infancia en dicho pueblo.  Ella, por ser la mayor, ayudaba a cuidar a sus cinco hermanos y cuatro hermanas, apoyándolos en todo lo que era necesario en los deberes de la casa y la escuela.  De niña su abuelita, Carmen le enseñó como coser bordado, oficio que aprendió muy bien.  Se sentaba en una mesita a un lado del catre y se ponía a bordar y a tejer servilletas y manteles.  Además, era una niña muy aplicada en la escuela.

A los 17 años, tuvo la oportunidad de trasladarse a Guasave, Sinaloa para trabajar con una prima que tenía salón de belleza y se instaló un taller de costura.  Con el sueldo de su trabajo, aportaba para el bien de todas sus hermanas. Bertha fue una fuente de inspiración para que sus hermanas y toda la familia saliera de su pueblo (Ocoroni) buscando que les fuera mejor ya que en el pueblo no había muchas oportunidades.

Después de unos años en Guasave, su madrina, Emilia García (McDowell), quien se había mudado a Blythe, California, invitó a Bertha que la visitara.  No pasó mucho tiempo cuando conoció un apuesto galán Eduardo Rodríguez.  En mayo de 1963, Bertha y Eduardo contrajeron matrimonio en Cd.Obregón, Sonora, dónde la familia de Bertha se habían mudado.  Eduardo y Bertha Rodríguez volvieron a Blythe, California para hacer su hogar y realizar una familia propia.

El matrimonio de Bertha y Eduardo produjo tres hijos, Edward (Lalín), Fabián, y Jesús Antonio (Jessie) e hija Luz María.  Como madre, Bertha se dedicó al bien de sus hijos, para que siempre fueran buenas personas y que no les faltara nada.  Sumamente exigía que sus hijos tuvieran amor a nuestro Señor.  Desde que llegó a Blythe, fue feligresa de la parroquia St. Joan of Arc, y frecuentaba a menudo la misa diaria.

Bertha siempre fue muy trabajadora.  Cuando llegó a Blythe, su primer trabajo fue de costurera de la tienda de ropa, Dick Farrage.  Pero donde pasó la mayoría de su trabajo laborar fue a lado de su marido Eduardo en la tienda La Victoria.  Bertha se encontraba todos los días apoyando a Eduardo en la tienda. Ella ayudaba con todas las funciones del negocio.  Cuando Eduardo falleció en 2004, Bertha le dio seguimiento a La Victoria como propietaria propia.  El legado que deja Bertha y Eduardo Rodríguez permanecerá por siempre en nuestros corazones y en la comunidad de Blythe, California.

Bertha pasa al cielo reuniéndose con su marido Eduardo. Le sobreviven sus hijos, Lalín(Angela) Fabian(Sarah), Jessie(Marisela), y Luz María(Megan) y sus nietos, Miriam, Julián, Cristián, Alicia, Aaron, Kiana, Marissa, Ivana, y Joaquín.   Además, sus hermanas Dolores, Beatriz, Emilia, Manuela y su hermano Nabor.

El velorio será de 5:00pm – 7:00pm y se rezará un rosario por eterno descanso de su alma a las 7:00pm el 3 de octubre en Frye Chapel.

Se celebrará una santa misa en su honor el 4 de octubre a las 10:00am en la parroquia de St. Joan of Arc en Blythe California.

Bertha was born in the quaint village of Ocoroni, Sinaloa, on July 10, 1935. She was the first-born daughter of Nabor Lugo and Maria Bernal. Bertha grew up in the village. As the oldest, she helped care for her five brothers and four sisters, guiding them in all aspects at home as well as at school. When Bertha was young, her Grandmother Carmen taught her how to sew and embroidery, skills that she learned expertly. She would often sit at a table by the bed to sew and embroider tablecloths and linens. Bertha was equally as attentive at her schoolwork.

When she was 17, Bertha had the opportunity to move to Guasave, Sinaloa, to work at a cousin's beauty salon, where they opened a sewing workshop. With her earnings, Bertha was able to help support her family back at home. After a few years in Guasave, she was invited to visit her godmother, Emilia Garcia (McDowell), who had moved to Blythe, California. Not long passed before she met a charming young man, Edward Rodriguez. In May of 1963, Bertha and Edward were married in Cd. Obregon, Sonora, where Bertha's family had moved. Edward and Bertha then returned to Blythe to start their very own home and family. Bertha was a source of inspiration for her sisters and family who later set out from Ocoroni in search of better opportunities than could be found in their small hometown.

Bertha and Edward had three sons, Edward (Lalín), Fabián, Jesús Antonio (Jessie), and a daughter, Luz Maria. As a mother, Bertha was dedicated to her children, ensuring that they wanted for nothing and instilling in them strong values. Above all, she taught them the love of God. Since her arrival in Blythe, Bertha was a member of the parish of St. Joan of Arc, often attending daily mass.

Bertha was a tireless worker. When she arrived to Blythe, her first job was as a seamstress at the Dick Farrage clothing store. But the majority of her years of work were alongside Edward at the La Victoria store, where she could be found each day, helping things run smoothly. She was involved in every part of the business. When Edward passed away in 2004, she continued running the store herself. The legacy of Bertha and Edward Rodriguez will always remain in our hearts and in the community of Blythe, California.

Bertha was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 42 years, Edward 'Eddie" Rodríguez, by her parents, Nabor Lugo and María Bernal, and her brothers, Baltazar Lugo, Bernardo Lugo, Benjamín Lugo, and Blas Lugo.

Bertha is survived by her four children: Lalín(Angela), Fabian(Sarah), Jessie(Marisela), and Luz Maria(Megan), and her grandchildren: Miriam, Julian, Cristian, Alicia, Aaron, Kiana, Marissa, Ivana, and Joaquin.  Also, her four sisters: Dolores, Beatriz, Emilia, Manuela and her brother Nabor.

Viewing will be held at Frye Chapel on Tuesday, October 3 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, followed by a Rosary from 7:00pm to 8:00pm.

Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, October 4 at 10:00am at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church.
