Benjamin Rodriguez
November 8, 1931 – January 2, 2022

Benjamin Rodriguez, 90, passed away on Sunday, January 2, 2022 at Palo Verde Hospital in Blythe, CA. He was born on November 8, 1931 in El Azucar, Tamualipas Mexico. He was the oldest child of Octaviano and Isabel (De La Garza) Rodriguez's seven children. The Rodriguez family immigrated to the United States in 1947 and settled in McAllen, Texas for a few years before moving to California. After only completing the 6th grade Benjamin along with his younger brother Tony traveled the country with their father to work as Migrant Field Laborers to help support the family.

By the early 1950's he made his home in Blythe, CA. This is where he would eventually meet the love of his life, Lupina Chavez. Benjamin and Lupina married on September 23, 1961 in a double ceremony with her sister Mary Alice and Tony Martinez. Together they had 5 children and 1 adopted daughter.

Benjamin was known as a kind, humble, hardworking and loving man. He never asked for anything but always willing to give. He sacrificed so much so that his family would not have to work as hard as he did. His entire life he labored in the hot sun, cold of winter from the early morning hours until evening. Although it is back breaking work he never complained. As you can imagine it was not easy raising a large family on such small wages, but he and his wife gave their children a wonderful childhood and life.

Benjamin was a loving father, doting Tata, caring son and brother, kind tio, and most of all a devoted husband. He was admired, respected and loved by all who knew him and he will be dearly missed.

Benjamin was preceded in death by, his baby sister Yolanda, his parents Octaviano and Isabel Rodriguez, younger sister Isabel Rodriguez, younger brother Leonel Rodriguez and his daughter Malena (Rodriguez) Perez.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Lupina Chavez Rodriguez, his sons Benjamin (Benny) Rodriguez, Ricardo Rodriguez, and his daughters Mary Alice (Rodriguez) Avalos, Anastasia (Ana) Rodriguez and Felicitas Rodriguez, his siblings Antonio Rodriguez, Ninfa Rodriguez and Arnold Rodriguez, his grandchildren, Adriane Rodriguez, Alyssa Rodriguez, Amanda Rodriguez, Jacob Rodriguez, Esais Rodriguez, Isabella Avalos, Benjamin Avalos, Felicia Perez, Nia Galindo, Adrian Galindo and Ian Galindo, as well as many nieces and nephews and in-laws.

The service for Benjamin will be held on Saturday, January 29 at the Frye Chapel. Rosary will be at 10:00.
