Obituary

Agnes Cash Parrish was born on April 16, 1932 in Abbeville, Georgia. She moved to Blythe, CA when she was 3 years old. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at St. Paul Baptist Church in Blythe under the leadership of Rev. Campbell. She was united in marriage to Murtha (aka "Mert") Parrish who preceded her in death in 1990. To this union six children were born.

Prior to marriage, she lost her beloved mother, Inez Smith, leaving two small daughters (Irene and Jean). Mom was at the tender age of 20. Mom was truly devoted to her family – our unsung Hero! She was a good cook, seamstress, got her children dressed and ready for church including fresh press and curls for her 4 girls. We recently learned from a newspaper clipping that Mom played in the Blythe women's Negro baseball league – she played the center-field position.

Mom showed care and compassion for her family members and others who needed shelter and aid. We remember on night she came home from church with an infant foster girl who needed care for night. Our family really enjoyed the time we had with this baby girl. Mom love to fish especially with her cousin Kat when she could.

Mom also had a very creative side in which we believe she created the first lettuce spinner; however, we could not patent it because she wrapped the lettuce in a towel and put in the washer on spin. We shared a lot of laughs with Mom on her creations, and her quick with and unabashed humor.

Sweet Mama & Grandma passed away quietly and peacefully Monday morning, June 26, 2023 at home surrounded by her love ones. Her older sister Johnnie L. Badie (affectionately know as Prunie) preceded her in death.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories to her children, Yolanda Parrish, Marvin Parrish (Maryam), Janie Parrish, Onita Dulin (Fred), Vanessa Parrish and Tyrone Parrish. Five loving grandchildren: Leslie Moore, Quincy Parrish, Tyra Parrish, Jazminn Parrish and Dominiek Parrish. She leaves two sisters Irene Fuller and Claudia Jean Grayer; a host of nieces and nephews, loving cousins, relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Life was held on July 11, 2023 in Carson, CA.
